Screams of piercing pain
Shattering the silence;
Silent still the fear
Haunting every heart.
Who, O God, could know,
Who but You imagine
Here in need and filth and shame
Pure joy would have its start!

Tiny, boundless God,
Holy, holy, holy;
Angels come to sing
Glory now unseen.
In Your mother’s arms,
Resting in Your Father;
Here where all may seem so wrong,
A rightness all serene!

Mighty, wordless Word
Cradled with Your creatures;
You, the living Way
Leading us above;
You, the life we crave,
Holy, real, and human.
Here we come and bow and gaze
And know that You are love.
