The
law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
The ordinances of the Lord are sure
and altogether righteous.
They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the comb.
By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
May
the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
(Psalm 19:7-11, 14, NIV)

Hymn: The Word of the Lord
The
message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For
it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
Where
is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher
of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the
world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through
its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the
foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
Jews
demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but
we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and
foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called,
both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom
of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18-24 NIV)
